Peony Pavilion - Tang Xianzu and Guisheng school
The play “Peony Pavilion” held a page in ancient times in the
literary arts history in China, which was the masterpiece of great
dramatist and writer Tang Xianzu in the Ming Dynasty. A.D. l591
(Mingwan 19th year). Tang Xianzu was not politically corrupted and
wrote in a book the strikes in the imperial court ; the emperor didn’t
like him, and he was demote and send to Suwen to work as a standard
After Tang Xianzu arrived Suwen, he knew that the local people make light of life, often fight brutally for some minor matters, offend somebody or murder, even commit suicide was a common matter. In order to change this way of life, a school , called “Guisheng school”, was funded by Tang Xianzu and Xiong Minzi who was magistrate in Suwen county. The Guisheng school conducted a vigorous propaganda about "all is precious in the world" and the "living person is valued". Tang Xianzu was giving the lesson in person, teaching and explaining the principle.
Until now, the Guisheng school build 400 years ago, is still preserved complete, and became cultural relic preservation center in Suwen, obviously the Suwen’s people respected Tang Xianzu.
The Guisheng school occupies 3,000 square meters, for a construction area of 450 square meters. It has a lobby, a hall, a pavilion and a studying room (the classroom). The preservation of the tablets of school is completed.
Visiting the Guisheng school, you can understand the true meaning of life, you can learn the thoughts from the ancient people, perhaps aware of life’s value more than original.
